Cincinnati Pride speakers

to hold forum

As part of the week-long Pride celebration, Stonewall Cincinnati will host a Community Forum on Thursday, June 15 from 7-10 pm, with civil rights activists Jona Olsson and Mandy Carter. The forum will be held at St. John's Unitarian Church, 320 Resor Ave., in Clifton.

Jona Olsson has been a political activist and educator for two decades. She claims in her life, as most of us can, the experience of both privilege and oppression. She is the founder and director of Cultural Bridges, offering cultural diversity programs for college or community groups and agencies. She has presented over 60 programs in the last three years. Her education, travel, trade union membership, college faculty positions from 1975-1981, and her social activism provide a rich background for anti-oppression education.

Olsson serves on the board of Canine Working Companions, an agency providing assistance dogs to people who are deaf or have a disability. She is also the author of a number of anti-oppression essays. Her frank, open approach and sense of humor gain her high praise for her workshops. Participants will feel a renewed commitment to anti-oppression work.

Mandy Carter is one of the nation's leading African-American lesbian activists. She is a veteran in the political arena who has worked in grassroots organizing over the last 26 years in almost every major geographical region of the country. solid and enviable track record.

Carter is on the Board of Directors of North Carolina's Pride PAC for Lesbian and Gay Equality and the Board of Governors of the Black Gay and Lesbian Leadership Forum founded in 1988. Her most recent attention is focused on the "invasion" and exploitation of the African-American community by radical right groups such as Pat Robertson's Christian Coalition, Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the Family and the Rev. Lou Sheldon's Traditional Values Coalition. These predominantly white, radical right organizations are targeting the African-Ameri-

can churches and communities to enlist their support in their war of hatred and bigotry against gay and lesbian people. Carter is the founder and director of the National Call to Resist Campaign of the National Black Gay and Lesbian leadership Forum, which seeks to counter the radical right in the black community by promoting organizing as out African-American lesbians and gay men in our community.
